Tactics used by spies during the revolution to get inrfomation to Washington werethe cipher, invisible ink, mask letters, and quill letters.
Quill Letters
Quill letters were messages that were sometimes cut up and inserted inside hallow quills, sewn into silver buttons or iserted in metal balls. The point of this trickery was if the spies were caught the messages could esaly be desposed of.
Ciphers Code
In letters left by Benedict Arnold he would not write the words he wanted directly in the letter. Arnold would put the page number the word he wanted was on, then the line number it was on, and the number of the word it was counting from the left.
Invisible Ink
Invisible ink is made of a mixture of ferrous sulfate and water. Once mixed it was writen between the lines of letters. When the letter was recieved it had either an ?A? for being treated with acid or an ?F? for being treated with heat.
Mask Letter
Mask letters were letters that could have a grill or a mask on it, but would still make sense with or without the mask. The message would be inside the mask or grill.
